Join the WPA’s Global Coronavirus Prayer Movement

The World Peace Association’s Secretary-General Sattva Zhang invites people from around the world to join her in a daily five-minute prayer for those suffering from the coronavirus pandemic, starting tonight at 7:00pm.

Ms. Zhang, a devout Buddhist for 30 years, believes in the power of prayer to alleviate suffering, heal the earth, and create a shared sense of community around the globe, especially during this challenging time of isolation. Her five-minute prayer is an invitation to people of all faiths to join together, solemnly and earnestly, to heal humanity from this plague.

April is a sacred month, as Christians celebrate Easter, and Jews observe Passover. Regardless of your religion, this is an opportunity to pray to your God or higher power, to reduce the suffering from this pandemic.

“Let us pray for forgiveness and healing, and make a vow to improve ourselves and be worthy of God’s grace,” implores Ms. Zhang. Half of humanity is now in quarantine or under orders to stay home. Please observe this prayer in your own home. Begin by lighting a candle if one is available to you.

During the five-minute prayer:

First, ask for forgiveness.

Second, vow to improve your behavior and become a better person.

Third, pray to God to eradicate this pandemic.

For inspiration, you can follow along with the prayer below, or recite a prayer from your faith.

Dear God,

I (your name) sincerely ask for forgiveness, for all of the destruction I have caused Mother Earth. Please forgive me for polluting, wasting resources, and other careless actions I took that harmed our environment.

From today onwards I vow to make a difference to care and contribute to the well being of Mother Earth, to the best of my ability. I will be mindful in all my actions and acknowledge the fragility of human life which depends heavily on our mother’s protection.

I pray to our Heavenly Father to have mercy on us and relieve us from this pandemic as soon as possible—cure people who are suffering, comfort people who are grieving, and care for those who are struggling.

Amen.
