President Trump Must Put People’s Lives First: World Peace Association Secretary-General

The United States now has more than 82,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, more known cases than any other country in the world. According to experts, infections are expected to continue to grow exponentially in the coming weeks.

In comparison, China has a population more than four times larger than the U.S, but has reported just 81,285 cases. Given the United States’ relatively smaller population of 320 million, to China’s 1.4 billion people, why are the number of cases in America so high?

In an online video address on Thursday, World Peace Association Secretary-General Sattva Zhang said there are two main reasons: First, there’s the style of American government and the government’s lack of response in the pandemic’s early stages. Second, the U.S. lacks experience in controlling the outbreak of the virus.

“We must join hands with the countries of the world to fight against the pandemic,” the Secretary-General urged. Since China has already been largely successful in controlling the spread of COVID-19, Ms. Zhang called on U.S. President Donald Trump to “invite the help of the Chinese government and the help of China’s experienced medical teams to solve this crisis.”

She went on to ask that governments put politics aside during this crucial time. “We cannot place the current political situation above people’s lives,” she continued, before asking that the United States ease sanctions against Iran, in order to allow them to better fight the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Looking ahead to the 2020 U.S. presidential election, Ms. Zhang warned President Trump that God would not favor a president “who doesn’t put American’s lives first, who doesn’t put the lives of people around the world first.”

“America first” should not be a policy to oppress other countries, but rather an a policy that means, when America has developed, she will help the world develop too, explained Ms. Zhang. America should also not be too proud. Instead, America should consult Chinese experts to help end the pandemic, she said.
